busking

This guitarist punching out blues riffs under Millennium Bridge really caught my attention. I rarely give money to buskers -- perhaps I'm picky about my music -- but he deserved it. Quite a gimmick. He goes by the name Flame Proof Moth.

real democracy

Protesters at Trafalgar Square. Perhaps the most generic protest of I've seen. Who doesn't support democracy?

skyway

Can't believe I'd never noticed this rather interesting skyway by Convent Garden until a couple days ago.

brand spanking new Banksy

Can't claim credit for this picture, but I didn't have my camera with me when my bus passed this brand new Banksy piece this morning.

It's a mere ten minute walk from my house and I first noticed it on my commute at around 10 AM. By the time I was walking home at 4, it had been featured on a number of London blogs (including Londonist, where I got this image) and there was a small group of onlookers and photographers gathered around it and taking pictures. Very interesting to see the progression of the piece from unknown to a major tourist draw in a mere six hours.

Click the location link below to see exactly where it is.

Beached boat

Not sure if you can really tell in this picture, but I witnessed a yacht get stranded on Tower Bridge a few days ago after a particularly forceful and dramatic squall hit the Thames.

I may or may not get up at 4 to watch the Solstice sunrise this morning. If I do, I promise pictures.

Urban Physic Garden

The new Urban Physic Garden in Southwark boasts herbs to treat all sorts of complaints. It's a beautifully repurposed urban space with very knowledgeable herbologists who have a lot of information (and free food samples!) that they are willing to share. Not to be missed.

More shots of the garden to follow.

changing city

The old and the new. I adore London when it looks like this. And this is St Dunstan-in-the-East, a church bombed-out in the Blitz and now an urban garden.

Tower Bridge rising

I have a new job and--lucky me--this is the view I had out my window yesterday. Atmospheric rain and everything.

Under Construction

When I saw that the June Theme Day over at City Daily Photo was "Under Construction," I squealed with joy. I'll jump at any opportunity to post pictures of my beloved Shard.

I hated this building when I first saw it under construction, but it has slowly worked its charms upon me, and now I think I can safely say I am a Shard convert. I cannot wait until it's finished. I'll be the first to take the elevator to the top.

Here we see the Shard peaking over the top of Southwark Cathedral.
