Tall Ship

Ran to grab my camera when this tall ship drifted under Tower Bridge. See the people hanging on the masts? Looks a little dangerous to me.

Walden Books

I keep wanting to visit this bookstore but I never seem to walk by it when it's open.

RIP Amy

I live not far from the Hawley Arms where Amy Winehouse used to go. The bathrooms are full of messages to her. Excuse the unsightly flash.

construction

A lot of London looks like this these days, gearing up for 2012.

Bar Italia

Bar Italia, serving some of the best coffee in London, has been around since the 1940s and is open 24 hours. I stopped in at the early hour of 9 PM.

Rabindranath Tagore

A new sculpture appeared near my university. Can't believe I missed HRH The Prince of Wales unveiling it in July.

bookstore

I call this one "Man with Bald Spot and Leather Jacket Looks at Books in Bloomsbury."
Also, why doesn't this bookstore have it's name out on the awning?

flowers in bloomsbury

If I didn't have to work on my dissertation, I'd be spending less time in the university library and more time walking around the university's neighborhood, Bloomsbury. Look at all the lovely hanging flowers! You think they all got together and coordinated that?

Tapped and Packed

Did manage to take a break from dissertation-writing to grab a tea with a friend at the new Tapped and Packed on Tottenham Court Road.

down the pub

If I didn't have to write my dissertation, I would be at the pub more often, especially if the weather is nice and that pub has a garden or patio.

Dissertation

Though I genuinely enjoy my dissertation topic (writing about these), the fact that this is my view for roughly eight or nine hours straight each day is not really that great.

Check back over the next few days to see what I would be doing or seeing more of in these city if I didn't have a massive essay to write.

old warehouse

I pass this building a lot these days on my way to the British Library and it's really grown on me. I like that it's an odd mix of warehouse storage space, a mirror shop, and lots of artists' studios.

Haven't been out shooting much lately due to working on my dissertation and then the riots. Running low on pics. Hope to get out and do some shooting tomorrow. We'll see if that happens.

London Riots

In light of recent events, I don't have a picture for you today. Instead, I'd like to share this video of a justifiably angry woman in Hackney telling off the idiots and looters burning up her neighborhood. If you have sensitive ears, there's a bit of swearing, but this woman tells it like it is.

Stay safe, Londoners. And if you are able to take some time off from your normal routine, follow @riotcleanup on Twitter and help your neighbors make our city a decent place again.

high tide

Remember this posting a while back of the busker on the banks of the Thames? Well, here is that exact same spot at high tide. I forget about the Thames's tides until I'm forced to remember it at times like this.

cool down

Finally getting some proper summer weather here in London. Cool down at the fountains outside City Hall and take in the stunning view of Tower Bridge in the sunshine.

Postcard-worthy

Still one of my favorite shots. Saint Paul's on a rainy night in December.

This is part of City Daily Photo's August Theme Day: Postcard-worthy.
