Art?

I went to an "unofficial" public art exhibition in Finsbury Park this weekend. Artists had deposited works around the park without permission and then publicised the event on Facebook. I got there early, as was encouraged, so I could see the art before it was confiscated by park authorities. This is one of the pieces and, I confess, I don't get it. An Olympic flag thrown into the bushes where parkgoers normally chuck their rubbish? What can it meeeeaaaan?

Also, the park authorities must have Facebook because I saw them inspecting some of the artworks on my way out of the park, though they had left them in place as of this afternoon.

Haze and Sun

On a sunny day like today, who can resist a meander in one of London's many parks. This was taken on a sunny but hazy day in Hampstead Heath. Can you see the outline of the far off London skyline? Usually, these buildings are much clearer.

The last of the snow pictures for a bit. Here's Kensington Gardens in all its frosty glory. Kensington Palace, the Royal residence there, is closed for renovations but reopens in time for QEII's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

A glorious day here in the capital today. And we had a splendid one on Sunday as well. I took full advantage of it and embarked on a five hour meander from my home near Finsbury Park, through Waterlow Park and Highgate Cemetery, stopping at Kenwood House in Hampstead Heath, and finally ending up at the falafel stand on South End Road. Snapped many a photo, including this one of some children playing on the Heath.

During the winter months, one forgets how much leaves can change the look of a place. This square near my school was completely bare for so long that I was pleasantly surprised by the tunnels and canopies that have suddenly sprouted in this spring weather.

Cumberland Terrace

A grand mansion on Cumberland Terrace overlooking Regent's Park. Many of these impressive buildings were designed by the architect John Nash who envisioned building similar estates in Regent's Park itself one day. Luckily for me, he didn't, so I get to wander around the park all on my lonesome without fear of trespassing onto the private property of a duke or an earl or some such nonsense.

Canadian Thanksgiving on the Heath

It was Canadian Thanksgiving yesterday and I celebrated it for the first time ever with a new Canadian friend. Decided to make a proper day of it and go on my traditional Thanksgiving walk (though, of course, mine usually happens in November). Made it up to Hampstead Heath which was teaming with people -- families playing footy, couples going for walks, dogs jumping in all the ponds. A perfect autumn day.
